Dog detects man with drugs at Ercan Airport in north Cyprus
A man who was found to be in possession of herbicide while entering Ercan Airport, north Cyprus has been detained for two days on court order.
The suspect MA, was arrested at Ercan Airport in North Cyprus at around 8:15pm on Tuesday, January, 30. He was taken to court on Wednesday.
Police said he was detected by a narcotics detection dog Köpük who reacted to the suspect on his arrival at Ercan Airport from Turkey.
Stating that a search was made on the suspect in this context, police said that a substance believed to be jute type drug weighing approximately 5 grams was found in the left inner pocket of the coat he was wearing and was taken as an evidence.
Police said the suspect admitted in his statement that he bought 7 grams of the drug from a street dealer in Mersin for 500 TL and that he took some of it.
Police stated that investigation against the suspect had just begun and that the drug substance would be sent for analysis, and requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days.
Speaking after the police, the suspect stated that he had forgotten the drugs in his suitcase and said that he regretted it.
