Two students detained for 3 months for in north Cyprus for kidnapping and stealing from a Nigerian

Two students who were arrested for assault, robbery and kidnapping in Lefkosia, will be detained in prison for a period not exceeding three months.

The incident happened between 11:00pm on Thursday, January, 11 and 6:50am on Friday, January, 12 in Göçmenköy.

The suspects, N.H.N and A.S.B, who are both Nigerians reportedly detained their victim named only as CSO, a Nigerian, beat him with a bottle of liquor and stole 120,000 TL from him.

They were taken to the Lefkosia District Court on Saturday on charges of "Force Kidnapping", "Robbery", "Serious assault and battery" and given a 3-day detention order for investigation purpose.

They were brought back to court again on Tuesday, January, 23.

Police told the court that between the hours of 11:00pm of January, 11, to 6:50am of January, 12, the suspects in Göçmenköy, Lefkosia along with 2 unidentified male persons forcefully detained the victim a resident of Lefkosia against his consent and did not not allow him to leave the residence.

They took his iPhone 8 plus and hit the him on the left part of his forehead with a Hennessey brand liquor bottle and severely assaulted him.

Police subsequently filed a complaint against the other wanted persons stating that they had committed the crime of robbery by hitting the complainant on the back with a wooden broom handle, taking his mobile phone, and sending 120,000 Nigerian Naira in cash to their own accounts from the bank application called UBA in the victim's phone.

Police stated that the suspects later stole from the vehicle of the victim by taking the documents of the Mercedes vehicle, which was parked unlocked in front of the subject residence, from the glove compartment in front of the front passenger seat.

The suspects were detected in the search carried out in accordance with a court order at Göçmenköy address on January 12, 2024, and as a result of the search carried out in the residence, the said broken broom handle, Hennessey brand drink bottle, vehicle documents belonging to the complainant and the iPhone belonging to the complainant were found. 

He told the court that an 8 plus brand mobile phone was found and taken as evidence and that the suspects, were arrested in accordance with the pending warrant.

The police said that the investigation into the matter that could affect the suspects had been completed and requested that they be detained in prison without a sentence for a period not exceeding three months.
