Two held in custody for stealing from a public bus in Lefkosia
Turkish Cypriot police said it identified the individuals who stole 2,700 TL and 2 mobile phones from a minibus parked at a bus stop in Lefkosia.
Police said those who were suspected of having connection with the incident were identified and arrested on Saturday, Jan., 6 and taken to court on charges of theft.
Police officer who spoke in court said the suspects named only as E.C and M.D.A, who are Turkish citizens between the hours of 4:45am to 7:40am on Sunday, Dec., 31, 2023, stole 2,700 TL and two mobile phones in the center console section of a minibus parked at Kyrenia Gate Bus stops at the Lefkosia City center.
Police said it was determined that the suspects passed through that area between 4:45am to 7:40am in the camera footage examined. Police also stated that there was footage of the suspects entering the vehicle.
Police said they were arrested in pursuant of a court order.
Police announced that a search was made at the house where the suspects were staying, but the stolen items and money were not found.
Noting that the investigation is continuing, the police said that there are mobile cameras to be examined and statements to be taken.
The judge ordered the suspects to be detained for 2 days for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
