Two Cameroonians on the run over the murder of Turkish Cypriot woman in north Cyprus caught by the police

Two people who were wanted in connection with the murder of Turkish Cypriot woman, Ayça Alav were identified and arrested in an operation carried out by Turkish Cypriot police on Monday night.

The incident that happened on December, 22, 2023, caused a serious outrage in the country, leading to the arrest of two people accused of helping the suspects escape.

The two suspects, named only B.G.K, 32 and V.S.M.T, 32, both Cameroonian nationals were identified and caught in Pile village on the night of Monday, Jan., 8, 2024. They were taken to the Lefkosia District Court on Tuesday, Jan., 9, on charges of premeditated murder.

During the hearing in court, police told the court that the two suspects gave voluntary statements and confessed their crimes.

Narrating the facts in court, police prosecutor said the suspects, BGC and VSM went to the office of the deceased called Hitbit, located in Lefkosia city center between 2:00pm to 2:47pm on December 22, 2023 where they deliberately killed her, stole local and foreign currencies, left the scene and went to South Cyprus illegally.

Police noted that the suspects were involved in one of the crimes requiring the most severe punishment in the Criminal Code. Police told the court that there are more signs and statement to be taken about the issue and requested that they be detained for 3 days for the purpose of investigation.

Meanwhile, the suspects, who did not have a lawyer, were asked if they objected to the three-day detention decision.

The suspects who spoke in court claimed that "Ayça Alav was alive when they left the workplace, they did not kill her, they did not do it on purpose."  The woman was alive when we left there. We didnt kill her, we didnt leave her like that to kill her but after we escaped, she died. We did not do anything willingly, they said,

The judge ordered that the suspects be detained for three days.

In a different development regarding the capture of the suspects, Kibris Postasis reported that two friends, Hüseyin Demirel who lives in south Cyprus and Ufuk Hasan who lives in England helped captured the suspects.

Hasan explained that Demirel, who lives in Larnaca, south Cyprus received money offers from two people to help them go abroad, which made Demirel suspicious about the issue

Hasan said he had to travel down to Cyprus from England after his friend Demirel conveyed the issue to him and they transferred the issue to the TRNC police.

He said they spent 3-4 days with the suspects and that they agreed to meet with the police at the Beyarmudu crossing point. Hasan said that they took the suspects to the place described as the dairy farm area in Beyarmudu and handed them over to the police.
