Two arrested in north Cyprus for kidnapping and stealing from a Nigerian, two other wanted by the police

Two people who illegally detained and stole over 100,000 Turkish Lira from an individual in Lefkosia were arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police on Saturday. 

The incident happened between 11:00pm on Thursday, January, 11 and 6:50am on Friday, January, 12 in Göçmenköy.

The suspects, N.H.N and A.S.B, who are both Nigerians reportedly detained their victim named only as CSO, a Nigerian, beat him with a bottle of liquor and stole 120,000 TL from him.

The suspects were arrested by the police and taken to the Lefkosia District Court on Saturday on charges of "Force Kidnapping", "Robbery", "Serious assault and battery." 

Police said two other unidentified people who are connected with the incident are still on the run.

Police said they forcibly adopted the victim from his residence in Lefkosia without his consent. The suspects took the victims phone from him, severely beat him and hit him on the left part of his forehead with a liquor bottle.

Police said there was a complaint against the suspects that the other wanted persons had committed the crime of robbery, beating the complainant by hitting him on the back with a wooden broom handle, taking the victim's mobile phone, and sending 120,000 TL in cash to their own accounts from the bank application in his phone.

The suspects later stole from inside the vehicle of the victim by taking the documents of the complainant's vehicle, which was parked unlocked in front of his residence.

Upon complaint, N.H.N., was detected in the search carried out in accordance with a court order at Göçmenköy on January 12, 2024. The said broken broom handle, liquor bottle, vehicle documents belonging to the complainant and the mobile phone belonging to the complainant were also found. They were taken as evidence.

Considering that the investigation into the matter was continuing, that there were statements to be taken, camera footage to be examined, and that there were also persons being sought, the police requested that they be detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
