Tourists steals from super market in north Cyprus

Two people were sent to prison for 7 days in north Cyprus for stealing goods worth over 3,000TL from a market.

The suspect, VK and YK, both Turkish nationals who were accused of stealing goods worth 3,500 TL from a market along the Lefkosia-Famagusta high way were brought to court in Lefkosia on Friday, January, 26.

Police in a court statement said the suspects on  January 15, 2024, went Erülkü Supermarket where they stole 4 teas, 6 baby foods, 2 feeding bottles and 1 Nuk brand pacifier. They took the items in a grocery cart and left the market without paying.

Police stated that the theft was noticed late and the complaint was made on January 25.

Police said in camera footage examined, it was determined that the suspects took the products, got in their vehicles and left the scene.

The police officer stated that the suspects were arrested on January 25.

All the stolen products were found in their possession. The stolen items were seized by the police as evidence.

Police said the suspects came to the country on January 14, 2024 with a tourist visa, that they live in Mersin province of Turkey and that they have 4 children.

Police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not to exceed 7 days until trial.
