Student searched for drug arrested for illegal residency in north Cyprus

A student who was searched for drugs was arrested for illegal residency when nothing incriminating was found on him.

The suspect, BCA, a Nigerian, who lives an apartment building on Bozova Street in Gönyeli was searched for drugs on the evening of Wednesday, January 17, but no illegal substances were found on him, was found to be living illegally in the country. 

He was brought to court on Friday, for living illegally in the country. 

Police told the court that no illegal substance was found in the drug-related raid carried out by a police team from the Crime Prevention Branch in the apartment where the suspect stays but during the immigration check, the suspect was found to have been living illegally in north Cyprus for 800 days since November 2021.

Police stated that the necessary investigation was carried out by the Immigration Department regarding the suspect and that the investigation was completed, and requested that he be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
