Student go on stealing spree from cars in Gonyeli north Cyprus

A foreign student in north Cyprus who was found to have stolen several items including money and a tablet from a parked vehicles in Gönyeli has been detained by Turkish Cypriot police on court order.

The suspect, JHK, an Iranian student in north Cyprus, between the period 17-18 January, 2024 stole tablets worth 35,000 TL, 110 pounds sterling, 220 dollars and a quarter gold coin from a vehicle belonging to one CN, which was parked on the pavement in front of a residence in Gönyeli.

The suspect was identified and arrested on January, 23 and admitted his crimes in his statement.

He was brought to the Lefkcosia District Court on charges of theft.

Police in a court statement said the suspect also stole two gold engagement rings kept in a bag dropped by a person on the street in Gönyeli on January 20.

On January 22, 2024, the suspect stole a total of 1,000 Euros and 3,000 TL in cash, which was kept in a vehicle belonging to one NG, which was parked on the pavement in front of a residence in Gönyeli. 

Police said the stolen items and money were found during a search of the suspect's house. 

Police noted that the investigation was continuing and that an investigation would be carried out on the places where the suspect spent the money he stole.

The judge ordered the suspect to be detained for 4 more days.
