Student arrested for illegal residency in north Cyprus ask for chance to do it
A student who was arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit has been detained for two days by the police on court order.
The student named, only as E.S.K, a Congo national, was identified and arrested by patrol police at around 7.30pm on Friday, Jan., 5 on Atatürk Street in Gönyeli.
During immigration check, it was discovered that he had been residing in north Cyprus without a resident permit for a total of 402 days since November 9, 2022.
He was taken to the court on Saturday, Jan., 6 on charges of illegal residency.
Police said the student in a statement said he was illegal because he could not attend school because he did not have money.
The student who spoke in court asked for a chance to legalize his stay that he wanted to continue school and asked for money from his sister.
Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days.
