Six sent to prison for 20 days for living in north Cyprus without a permit
Six foreign nationals who were arrested for living illegally in north Cyprus were sent to prison for 20 days until trial.
They were identified and arrested during inspections carried out by the police in the Haspolat region, at around 10:00pm on January 20, 2024.
They were taken to the Lefkosia District Court on January, 21 and January 25.
Police told the court that one of the individuals, PA, has been living illegally in north Cyprus for 516 days since August 22, 2022, KPW, for 612 days since March 18, 2022, and CPN for 385 days since December 31, 2022.
Others are AGI who has been living illegally in the country for 782 days since November 29, 2021, LCK, for 801 days since November 10, 2021, and ETA for 3,528 days (10 years) since May 24, 2014.
Police stated that during their initial 3 days detention period, necessary investigation was carried out by the Immigration Department during this period.The judge who evaluated the issue in court, ordered the suspects to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
