North Cyprus’s biggest mosque owned by Near East University owner to face court case over land location
Cyprus and north Cyprus’ new biggest mosque which is set to be opened today will be the subject of a court case over the building of its parking space on a plot of land belonging to the Sanver family.
According to media report on Wednesday, the mosque, named as the Dr Suat Gunsel mosque, located inside the Near East University in Lefkosia, north Cyprus will be opened on Thursday, Jan., 11.
However, landowner Ahmet Sanver is to sue the Gunsel family, owners of the Near East University and the mosque, saying that part of the mosque complex has been built on his land.
Specifically, he claims the mosque’s car park has been built on land belonging to him, and he said on Wednesday that he and his family did not give permission for anything to be constructed on the land they own.
“I will not give up on my rights,” he said.
“It is clear that the prayers which will be made in this mosque are haram and not permissible, they are sins.”
“Our land has been occupied. We are referring the Gunsels first to God, and then to the courts,” he said.
