Man says he only assaults his wife whenever he is drunk

Turkish Cypriot man who was arrested for domestic violence in Lefkosia, north Cyprus said he only assault his wife when he is drunk. 

The man named only as L.K., was arrested and taken to court for threatening his wife with violence.

The man at around 7:30pm on Tuesday, January, 9 at his residence in Lefkosia after getting drunk, walked up to his wife K.K, on ​​the grounds that she did not answer her phone, and threatened her with violence.

He was identified and arrested following a complaint.

Police said that in the alcohol test performed on the suspect, it was determined that he had 250 promil alcohol. The police also noted that there were three separate records indicating that the suspect beat his wife, but since the victim did not file a complaint, no further action was taken.

The suspect in his statement stated that he is currently receiving treatment for alcohol and that he only resorted to violence when he was drunk.

Noting that the part of the investigation that could influence the suspect has been completed, the police requested that he be released on bail.

The court ordered the suspect to be released on bail until trial on the condition that he pays a cash guarantee of 10,000 TL and two guarantors sign a surety bond of 250,000 TL each.
