Man assaults girlfriend in North Cyprus for trying to break up with him on new Year Day

Man assaults girlfriend in Lefkosia, North Cyprus after she decided to break up with him.

The suspect named only as O.A at around 4:00am on Monday, Jan., 1 at a residence in Ortaköy, Lefkosia violently assaulted his girlfriend who wanted to break up with him.  

The suspect was arrested following a complaint by the victim. He was taken to court on Tuesday, on charges of "threat of violence" and "serious assault".

 Police in a court statement said the suspect seriously beat his girlfriend named only as, S.İ., a resident of Lefkosia in her residence. 

He threatened her with violence, on the grounds that she wanted to break up with him.

Police stated that the suspect did not accept the charges in the written notification of the case. 

Noting that the complaint was ongoing, the police requested that the suspect be released on bail as he had no criminal record.

The judge released the suspect on bail and told to pay a bail bond of 10,000 TL and bring two guarantors to sign a surety bond of 200,000 TL.
