Man injures roommate for swearing at his mother in north Cyprus

A Turkish national has been detained for inflicting injuries on his roommate because he insulted his mother.

The suspect, E.C., a Turkish national on December, 30, 2023, in in the Karaoğlanoğlu district of Kyrenia, reportedly injured his roommate on various parts of his body with a scissor on the grounds that he "swore at his mother".

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Kyrenia court on charges of "attempted murder" and "serious injury" in Kyrenia.

Police told the court that the suspect injured his friend A.K, with whom he was drinking alcohol with at home, on his left shoulder with a 10 cm long scissor on the grounds that he "swore at his mother". 

He also injured his friend with the scissor on the middle inner side of his left shoulder blade and the left back of his neck, causing a cut of approximately 4 centimeters in depth.

Police stated that the suspect caught his friend at the garden gate when he tried to run away from the lodging room out of fear. He then attempted to murder him by using scissors, starting from where the left side of the neck meets the body, and making an incision on his right collarbone, in a way that would pose a danger to his life.

Police stated that the suspect escaped and was caught in Kyrenia on January 5. 

Police noted that blood samples were taken from the suspect and the complainant regarding the issue, the necessary correspondence was made, and security camera footage was obtained. 

Police said the suspect did not tell where he was hiding for 6 days and did not give his mobile phone to the police.

The judge ordered the suspect to be detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
