Iranian man sent to prison for residing illegally in north Cyprus
A foreign national who has been living in north Cyprus illegally for over a year was arrested by Turkish Cypriot police and sent to prison for 20 days.
The man, E.S., an Iranian was stopped by the police who found him sitting on the roadside at around 7:00pm on Monday, Jan., 1 in the SurlariƧi region in Lefkosia city center.
Immigration checks on him showed that he has been residing in the country without a resident permit for 458 days since September 30, 2022.
He was arrested and taken to the Lefkcosia District Court.
The court ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days until trial.
