Foreign national jailed for stealing from houses she went to clean in Lefkosia and Gonyeli

A foreign national that stole from the houses she went to clean has been detained for 7 days.

The suspect, M.S, a Turkmenistan national, was arrested for stealing money and jeweleries from the houses she went to clean in Lefkosia and Gönyeli,

She was taken to a court in Lefkosia on Friday, January, 19.

Police said they found a 22 carat twisted motif gold earring worth 30,000 TL, 100 dollars in cash, 5 pounds and money found in the dresser drawer of the house belonging to one NB, 62 where the suspect went to do cleaning in Lefkosia on 17 November 2023. 

She also stole an 18 carat gold butterfly necklace worth 15,000 TL, a 22 carat gold hoop earring worth 15,000 TL and 400 TL cash from the house belonging to one female client which she kept in the dresser cupboard in the bedroom.

It was determined that the suspect stole an 18 carat gold necklace with a dotted stone motif from the house belonging to one A.Ç.B. in Gönyeli.

Police noted that the suspect confessed to the crime by giving a voluntary statement and said that she sent the gold she stole to Turkmenistan through her friend to pay her debts.

Police noted that during the search of the suspect's address in Yenişehir, many jewelries were found in the bedroom of the residence, and that she could not give any explanation regarding the jewelries.

Police stated that the jeweleries were shown to the complainants, NB and İ.SB. The items were 2 silver chain necklaces, a brooch with a flower motif, a gold pendant with a scale motif, a broken 8 carat gold necklace, a chain necklace, and a pair of imitations with a triangle motif. One of them was able to identify her earrings.

During her detention period, her status in the TRNC was investigated and it was learned that her status was legal until December 14, 2024 due to her husbdand's work permit.

The police also stated in their additional statements that the two complainants came to the police again on January 18, 2024, and that as a result of the check they made at home, there were no 400 Euros and 4,000 TL in cash in the wallet that they kept in the closet room belonging to NB and 30 coins belonging to İ.SB. 

Police said they found that a pair of sapphire gold earrings worth 1,000 TL, a gold seashell motif ring worth 1,000 TL, a gold twisted detailed necklace with diamond stones worth 50,000 TL, and a Savaroski brand purple stone ballpoint pen worth 4,000 TL were missing.

In the statement of one of the complaint, on January 18, 2024, he stated that the suspect came to his house to do cleaning work, and upon checking his belongings at home, he discovered that he did not find a pair of earrings with bow-patterned stones worth 600 TL, and filed a complaint.

Police also conveyed to the court that they determined that the 14 carat gold necklace worth 10,000 TL and a blue necklace and chain worth 7,000 TL belonged to MS.

Police said investigation is continuing and that there are still 1 pair of 22 carat studded earrings worth approximately 30,000 TL, 1 pair of 22 carat hoop earrings worth approximately 15,000 TL, and an 18 carat gold butterfly motif pearl detailed necklace worth approximately 15,000 TL.

Police asked for additional time, saying that there were statements to be taken and signs to be found, and that it would also be investigated whether the suspect had connections to many unsolved theft cases.

The suspect was ordered to be detained for 7 days.
