Five people detained for living in north Cyprus without permit

Five people who were found to be living in north Cyprus without permit were arrested and brought to court on Saturday.

The five of them who are all Nigerians were identified and arrested during a search carried out by the C.Ö.Ş Branch at Göçmenköy between the hours of 6.45pm to 7.25pm on Friday, January 12, 2024.

The suspects, E.U.A., has been living illegally in the country for 2,295 days since September, 30, 2017, J.O.O, has been living illegally in the country for 834 days since September, 30, 2021, E.P.S, has been living illegally in the country for 1,565 days since September, 30, 2019, K.I.M., has been living illegally in the country for 104 days since September, 30, 2023 and E.T.E., has been living illegally in the country for 284 days since April, 3, 2023.

Police said they entered the country as students but began to reside illegally without completing any educational procedures.

Police requested that they be detained in custody for 3 days for the purpose of investigation regarding their immigration.
