Two students detained in north Cyprus for not having resident permit
Two students have been arrested and detained for living in the TRNC illegally of which, one of them had gone to the police to process a document when he was arrested.
One of the students, named only as OJK, a Nigerian had gone to the Lefkosia Police Department Immigration Branch for processing on Monday, Dec, 11, when he was found to had been living in the country without permission. The second student, CMM,a Congolese.
Police said it was determined that OJK, had been living in the country without permit for 377 days, since September 30, 2022, while CMM had been living in the country without permit for 619 days since January 31, 2022.
OJK entered the island on December 9, 2016 with a 30-day visa and stayed in the country with a student immigration permit until September 30, 2022.
CMM came to the island on January 31, 2022 with a 60-day visa, and that he had not taken any legal action since then and started living illegally when his visa expired.
The police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
