Two sent to prison for 20 days for living illegally in North Cyprus without a residence permit
Two men who were detained for residing illegally in north Cyprus were sent to prison for 20 days by a court in Lefkosia.
H.Y, A Turkish national and A.G, an African were sent to prison for 20 days on Wednesday by the Lefkosia Judicial Branch after appearing in court for the second time since their arrest.
Police told that court that on December 15, 2023, at around 9:00, the suspect H.Y was walking on Kyrenia Street in Lefkcosia and A.G was walking on Atatürk Street when they were arrested for illegal residency.The police said that during the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect H.Y had stayed in the TRNC without permit for 163 days since July 5, 2023, and A.G had stayed in the TRNC for 742 days since December 3, 2023. The police officer stated that an investigation was launched against both suspects, they were brought to court and a 3-day detention order was issued for them. The police stated that the necessary investigation was carried out during this period and requested that the suspects who do not have legal status in the country be sent to prison.
Evaluating the testimony before him, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspects to be sent to prison for 20 days.
