Pakistan national arrested for trying to leave north Cyprus with a fake passport

A Pakistan national who tried to exit north Cyprus using a fake passport has been arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police.

The suspect, M.U., was detected while trying to exit Ercan Airport with a fake Pakistani passport at around 6:40pm on Wednesday, Dec., 13. 

Police said he obtained the passport from south Cyprus.

Police told the court that the suspect at around 6:40pm on Wednesday, Dec., 13, at Ercan Airport, used a Pakistani passport and a Greek Cypriot residence permit issued in the name of another person, which he obtained from Southern Cyprus for 500 Euros with the intention of going to Belgrade via Turkey in transit.

Police stated that the suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto and an investigation was launched against him.

Police said that the suspect made some statements during his interrogation and that these statements would be investigated.

Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 1 day within the scope of the investigation.
