Nepal woman detained for 2 months in North Cyprus for trying to leave the country with a false passport
A woman who tried to exit the TRNC via the Ercan Airport using another person's passport was caught and detained by the police.
The woman identified only as J.T, a citizen of Nepal who resides in south Cyprus at around 7:45pm on Wednesday, Dec., 20 tried to exit the TRNC when he was detained by the police for using a passport belonging to another.
Police in a statement said the 50-year-old woman tried to exit Ercan Airport with someone else's passport when she was arrested red-handed.
She was taken to court on Wednesday on charges of "impersonating someone else and obtaining records by false behavior".
Police said she tried to leave the TRNC by giving Urmila Rai's Nepali passport to the immigration officer on duty, impersonating the person named and committing false acts.
Police stated that the passport for which evidence was taken was examined by a document expert and was determined that the passport was original but did not belong to the suspect.
Police stated that the suspect gave a voluntary statement as a confession, stating that she got the passport from a male person she met in the south.
Noting that the investigation was completed, the police requested that the suspect, who has no legal ties to the country, be detained.
The judge who evaluated the testimony ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months.
