Man held at Ercan Airport in north Cyprus for trying to travel with a false identity
A man who tried to exit north Cyprus via Ercan Airport with a false identity has been held and put on trial by Turkish Cypriot authorities.
Hitman Gurung, who tried to go abroad with someone else's passport and residence permit, was arrested at around 5:50am on Monday, Dec., 25. He was taken to court on Tuesday.
Police stated that they did not have any identification documents on the suspect, and noted that it was possible that the suspect's real name was not Hitman Gurung.
Police said they seized a Nepali passport issued in the name of Man Bahadur Paıja which was held by Hitman Gurung.
The suspect is a resident of Southern Cyprus, and have a residence permit for Southern Cyprus. He was enroute to Belgrade via Turkey in transit.
Police stated that the suspect gave a voluntary statement which would be confirmed and refuted.
The police also stated that it is possible that the suspect's real name is not Hitman Gurung and that this matter will be investigated.
He was ordered to be detained for 3 days for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
