Eastern Mediterranean University signs cooperation protocol with Famagusta Municipality for job opportunities for students of the university
The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has signed a cooperation protocol with the Famagusta Municipality for the creation of job opportunities to the students of the university.
The cooperation protocol between EMU and Famagusta Municipality regarding part-time job opportunities for students of the university for the general service areas of the municipality was signed on Friday, Dec., 22, at the university.
EMU vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Conclusion Zorlu, in a speech stated that more than 16,000 students are studying at EMU and that among these students there are those who need to work in a job due to their economic situation.
Zorlu stated that, with the proposal of Famagusta Municipality, they aim to formalize the right of EMU students to work 24 hours a week, part-time and to offer them the opportunity to work with their social rights, and noted that they have cooperated with the municipality in certain areas.
Stating that their goal is to spread this cooperation to different segments, Prof. Dr. Zorlu said that they will evaluate the requests from institutions.
Prof. Dr. Zorlu announced that the application system prepared by EMU and Famagusta Municipality has been integrated into the EMU student portal and that students can use the portals to choose the jobs they want to work in, and their applications will be evaluated by the municipality.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç also stated that EMU is an institution of the city of Famagusta and pointed out the importance of strengthening relations with Famagusta Municipality. Stating that they have a common view that the two institutions should work closely and contribute to the city.
Emphasizing that the basis of these studies is to create appropriate conditions in terms of ensuring social justice and providing economic contributions to EMU students, Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that the protocol could expand and be reflected in other institutions, and called on institutions and companies in need and asked employers to contact the EMU Rectorate if their requests arise.
Speaking at the ceremony, Famagusta Municipality Mayor Süleyman Uluçay stated that EMU is the most established university of the TRNC and that it has a very important role in the higher education sector, which is considered a priority sector in the country.
Noting that EMU and Famagusta Municipality are signing different agreements within the framework of the main cooperation agreement signed about 6 months ago, Uluçay stated that this cooperation protocol is the beginning of an important step for the city of Famagusta.
EMU Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Erdal Özcenk stated that they have a friendship with Famagusta Municipality Mayor Süleyman Uluçay for more than 30 years and that EMU supports the municipality on every platform.
Stating that the cooperation with Famagusta Municipality has created a strong culture of solidarity and cooperation between institutions, Özcenk emphasized that they will strengthen the relations between the municipality and the university and continue to work for Famagusta, which is a university city.
