Belgian national detained for 45 days for drugs and for violating military restricted zone in north Cyprus

 
Belgian national, Alexandros Gıovanez, who violated the military restricted zone in north Cyprus after entering the north from south Cyprus was found with 4 grams of drugs on him.

Gıovanez was said to have crossed into Northern Cyprus on Monday, Dec., 18, by violating the military forbidden zone but was caught near the Metehan Border Gate and 4 grams of drugs were found on him during the search carried out on him.

He was taken to court on charges of "importation and possession of drugs".

Police said that the suspect was captured by the soldiers on duty at around 2:00pm on December 18, 2023, while violating the military restricted zone while entering the country around the Metehan Border Gate.

The police announced that the situation was reported to the narcotics department after drugs were found on the suspect.

Police stated that 3 grams of 240 milligrams of jute-type narcotic substance was detected in the suspect's possession.

The police noted that the suspect admitted in his statement that he bought the drugs from Southern Cyprus for 10 euros on December 18.

The police stated that an investigation was launched against the suspect for violating the military restricted zone and requested that he be tried in custody.

Evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered the suspect to be detained for a period not to exceed 45 days.
