Angry woman sets ex-boyfriend's place of work on fire in North Cyprus over breakup

An angry ex girlfriend who could not get over her ex and decided to set his work place on fire will be tried in court.

The suspect, S.K., at around 11:30pm on Dec., 10 tried to set fire to the shop where her ex-boyfriend worked in Lefkcosia, north Cyprus.

She was arrested and taken to court on Wednesday, Dec., 13.

Police said that on December 10, 2023, at around 11.30pm, the suspect poured flammable material on two cardboard boxes in front of the entrance door of the barber shop where her boyfriend Ş.B., who left her, worked and set them on fire with a lighter.

Police stated that Ş.B. did not file a complaint after the day of the incident, and that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday.

Police noted that the suspect attempted to set fire to the shop where Ş.B. worked, on the grounds that he had broken up with him.

The court granted the suspect bail on the condition that she is banned from traveling abroad, pays a bail fee of 30,000 TL, bring two reliable guarantors of TRNC citizens to sign a surety bond worth 250,000 and report to the nearest police station once a week.
