Today in History: US Supreme court rules race separation on buses in Alabama unconstitutional

1998 – Lawyers for U.S. President Bill Clinton and Paula Jones settled her four-year-old sexual harassment lawsuit with an agreement that he would pay her $850,000 but make no apology.

2001 – Afghan opposition fighters captured Kabul.

2003 – Two weeks after receiving the designation of oldest person in the world, Mitoyo Kawate died in Hiroshima, Japan, at the age of 114.
2015 – Co-ordinated attacks in Paris targeting a stadium, concert venue and other sites kill 130 people.
