Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday announced that consular services for Russian citizens residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have begun through two mobile field teams.

Zakharova reported that more than 70 passport applications have been received by the two units and more than 15 passports have been issued as well as applications for Russian citizenship.

In an interview with The Moscow Post, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman provided information about the latest status of the consular services planned to be provided for Russian citizens in the TRNC, and said that according to the latest data, the number of people provided consular services is close to a thousand.

She stated that services for citizens who are unable to access the mobile units for health reasons are brought to their homes.

Noting that the status and form of consular work is “under development”, Zakharova said that the issue of providing consular services to Russian citizens living in the northern part of Cyprus is an issue that should have been resolved long ago.
