“I was drunk when I made this move": Foreigner in jail for sexually assaulting a woman in a market in Lefkosa

A foreigner has been detained in police custody for sexually assaulting a young woman who was shopping in a market in Lefkosa.

The suspect named only as AMSA, 23, a resident of Lefke committed the act at around 9:15pm on Saturday in "Macro" market operating in Küçük Kaymaklı, Lefkosa.

He was arrested and taken to court on Sunday on charges of sexual assault.

Police said he the victim, M.Ş, 23, a resident of Lefkosa from behind and sexually assaulted her.   

In his defense in court, the suspect said he was drunk and not conscious when it happened. “I was drunk when I made this move. "I wasn't myself," he said.

Police said investigation into the incident is still ongoing and demanded that he be detained for 3 days.
