Zim student detained for living in north Cyprus illegally for 6 years

A foreign national who was invited to the police station for the purpose of investigation was arrested by the police after he was found living in the TRNC illegally. 

The 27 years old suspected named only as TK, a Zimbabwean student was called to the police station in Lefkosa on Wednesday, August, 23, regarding an investigation when he was found to have been living in the country without a resident permit for more than 6 years. 

He was arrested and taken to court on charges of illegal residency on the same day.

Speaking in court, police said the suspect, has been living illegally in north Cyprus since March, 15, 2017 and had been determined that he has been living without a residence permit in the north of Cyprus for 2,352 days. 

Police stated that the investigation against the 27-year-old suspect was completed and demanded that he be sent to prison.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days before his trial.
