Wednesday is public holiday in North Cyprus and Turkiye to mark the 101 anniversary of Turkiye

Wednesday, August, 30 is public holiday in Turkey and in the TRNC to celebrate the 101 anniversary of the establishment of modern Turkey.

This year marks the 101st anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, which was the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence led by the founder of modern Türkiye Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The 30th of August Victory Day celebrations will begin on Wednesday with the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu accepting well wishers together with the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Major General Sabahattin Kılınç at 8:45am at the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Regimental Command Officers’ Mess in Ortaköy.

Meanwhile, two separate events will also be held in the capital Lefkoşa on Wednesday to mark the occasion.

The first will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument where wreaths will be placed, a minutes silence will be observed and flags will be raised to the national anthem.

The second ceremony will be the military parade at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard at 10am.

Similar ceremonies will also be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke to mark the day.

All public offices for the exception of essential services will be closed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, on August 30, the section of the Dr Fazıl Küçük Boulevard between the Alpet Petrol lights intersection and the Gönyeli roundabout will be closed to traffic from 7am onwards due to the main parade.

The road will remain closed until the end of the ceremony.
