Man detained for sexually abusing stepdaughter for two years

A stepdad has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for allegedly assaulting his step daughter sexually.

The incident was reported to the police on July, 23 following which an investigation was launched. This lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect named only as İ.K, Turkish citizen at the Kermiya crossing point with south Cyprus this week. 

Police said he committed the crime against his 12-year-old step daughter in Lefkosa and Güzelyurt, between the period from 2021 to 202. 

He was taken to court on Thursday on charges of Child Sexual Abuse, Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment.

Police said sexual messages were found on his phone.

Police said the victim had first reported the matter to his sister whom she lived with. Her statement was also taken in the presence of a social services expert and that many confirmations and disclaimers should be made.

The police said that the complainant, his two sisters and mother were taken under protection regarding the issue.

Police informed the court that 5 phones belonging to the suspect were taken as evidence and that the video and audio recording inside should be examined, and that it was determined that he sent sexual messages to the victim on WhatsApp.

The police demanded that the suspect be detained in the police for 8 days, as it is highly likely that if he is released, it will affect the statements and witnesses to be taken.
