Four students detained for living illegally in north Cyprus
Four students found to be living illegally in north Cyprus have been detained for one month before trial.
The four students identified only as OO, EW, OTO and OA, were identified and arrested by police on Monday, July, 24 for living illegally in the country without a permit. They were taken to court on Tuesday on charges of "Residing in the Country Without Permission from the Competent Authority" Speaking in court, the police prosecutor told the court that they were arrested in an investigation conducted on July 24.
Police said the suspect named OO has lived 1,394 days (3 years), the suspect named EW, for 2,563 days (7 years), the suspect named OTO, for 44 days and the suspect named OP, for 297 days without having legal status in the north of Cyprus.
The police demanded that the suspects be held in pre-trial detention.
Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered the suspects to be held in prison for a period not exceeding one month.
