Man on his way to his wedding arrested for cursing and being drunk
A drunk Turkish Cypriot man who protested against the closure of a road in Lefkosa during the visit of Turkish president, Tayyip Erdogan to the TRNC on Monday was arrested by the police for his behavior.
On Monday, several roads were closed to traffic in Lefkosa due to the visit of Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan to north Cyprus.
The man named only as TO was believed to be on his way to his “wedding” holding at the Turkish Embassy in Lefkosia when he met a serious traffic jam due to the road closure.
He was arrested on Monday and taken to court on Tuesday on charges of "drunkenness, causing disturbance and using fowl language".
Police said he was drunk when he cursed and reacted to the closure of the road at the time president Tayyip Erdogan was coming to lay a wreath at the Atatürk Bust at the city center in Lefkcosia.
Police said the suspect reacted to the traffic jam and cursed while he was under the influence of alcohol in front of the Highways Department in Lefkosia on his way to his wedding ceremony at the Turkish Embassy.
The police said that the investigation was completed and requested that the court give him the appropriate bail condition to ensure that he is ready for the case.
Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge banned the suspect from going abroad, provide a guarantor, a TRNC citizen, sign a bail bond worth 50,000TL and report to the police once a week until trial.
