Two men steals from airport after missing their flight

Two men who missed their Cyprus outbound flights took laws into their hands when they decided to steal drinks and money at Ercan Airport but were arrested by airport police while returning to take their bags full of stolen items. 

The suspects named only as U.Ş. and MFA committed the crime at Ercan Airport on Friday, April, 2023.

Police said they first stole alcohol and cigarettes worth thousands of pounds, then tried to stop a plane that was about taking flight. They also stole money by damaging a donation box in the waiting room at the airport but were arrested while returning to retrieve their bag full of stolen alcohol and cigarettes.

They were taken to court on Tuesday.

Police told the court that the suspects stole 5 bottles of alcoholic drinks, and 1 carton of cigarettes worth a total of 3,205 TL, which were being offered for sale in an enterprise operating at the Airport. 

Police said they had tried to stop a plane at that time but left their backpacks at the airport, damaged the donation box belonging to an association in the passenger waiting room, stole a total of 120 TL in cash, and fled.

They were arrested when they returned to retrieve the bag.

Stating that the investigation regarding the suspects has been completed, the police demanded that they remain in prison for a period not exceeding one month until trial.
