Man beat police during traffic control and fled

A 30-year-old man who assaulted a police during a traffic control was later arrested after drugs was found in his house in Lefkosa.

The incident happened on the Güzelyurt - Lefkosia main road at around 10:30pm on Thursday.

The suspect identified only as CR, 30 was stopped by a team of police who saw him behaved suspiciously during a traffic control on the Mevlevi round about on the Güzelyurt - Lefkosia main road.

One of the officers who entered his car to carry out a search was assaulted and pushed by the suspect. The police officer fell and injured his head. His cell phone was also damaged. 

The suspect then fled the scene of the incident but was followed by the police.

Police traced him to his house in Lefkosa and found drug residues believed to be a cannabis type drug and green prescription pills during a search carried out in the house.

He was arrested afterwards.
