Heavy rain in Cyprus causes flood and material damages

The heavy rain that fell in Cyprus on Saturday put the country in a stand still while it lasted with some road closed to traffic and several areas flooded. 

The heavy rain across the country which started at around 2:00pm was accompanied by hail.

Places like Lefkosa, Girne and Gonyeli, were flooded, roads closed, trees were uprooted and  some vehicles submerged in water.

The city center in Lefkosa was heavily flooded.

Some traffic lights were turned off due to malfunction.

The fire department, police and municipality teams were active during the period as they responded to emergencies.
