Bike thieves and buyer arrested for selling and buying of bikes below market value

A group of young Turkish Cypriot in Lefkosa stole and sold 3 bikes below it's market value.

The suspects named only as İ.S. and AA were arrested and taken to court on Wednesday on charges of theft, obtaining money by fraud and deliberate damage while the buyer MB was charged with “Acceptance of stolen Goods”.

Police said the suspects, I.S. and AA stole a total of 4 bikes between March and April and sold them to MB below their market value.

The police stated that it was determined that the suspects in April 2023, sold three bikes they stole to MB below the market value; the Trek 4300 brand orange bike they stole from the entrance or stair floors of an apartment worth 1250 Euro, belonging to one K.K was sold for 900 TL, the Ghost kato I brand bike worth 10,000 TL belonging to one C.S., stolen in an apartment in Gönyeli between March, 24-26, 2023 was sold for 1800 TL and the Salcano brand bike belonging to Yiğit Beyitler, 37 was stolen in March and sold for 800TL even though he knew that it was obtained under conditions related to theft. The value of the bicycle is yet to be determined as it is still being sought.

The Trek 4300 brand orange black bike and the Ghost kato 1 brand bike were recovered and taken as evidence. The salcano bike has not yet been identified.

Police said they deliberately and illegally cut and damaged the lock of the black-colored bicycle. The bicycle and the cutter were found and taken as evidence.

İ.S. and AA said in their written statements that it was learned that there was another bike with an unknown brand that they stole and sold for 250 TL, but the owner of the bike has not been reached yet, and the bike has not been found.

The police said that if the suspects were released at this stage, it was highly likely that they would affect the investigation, and demanded that they remain in police custody for 1 day at the first stage.
