85 Traffic accidents occurred in the last one week in the TRNC
A total of 85 traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC last week and 22 people injured among which driving at high speed is the leading cause of accidents.
According to a statement made by the Police Press Officer, 22 of the accidents that occurred between April 17 and April 23 resulted in injuries and 67 resulted in damage.
27 of the accidents were caused by driving fast, 18 of them were due to careless driving, 15 of them were not stopping at the intersection, 12 of them were following closely and 13 of them were other factors.
Of the accidents with a total damage amount of TL 2,289,000, 27 occurred in Girne, 24 in Famagusta, 22 in Lefkosia, 6 in Güzelyurt and 6 in İskele.
During the same period, as a result of the traffic controls carried out by the police throughout the country, a total of 8938 vehicle drivers were checked and 731 vehicle drivers who were found to have committed crimes were reported and legal action was initiated against them.
The distribution of crimes reported by drivers for not obeying traffic signs and signs is as follows:
“Failure to comply with traffic signs and signs (210), speeding (191), using a mobile phone while driving (120), driving without a seat belt (67), reckless driving (28), driving without a license to navigate (27), uninsured or out of scope driving (15), driving under the influence of alcohol (9), driving without inspection (8), dangerous driving (7), driving without a “B” private enterprise permit (3), driving without a driving license (2), traffic not obeying the lights (2), “A” driving without permission (2), riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet (2), other traffic offenses (38).
