Signal from stolen phone leads to arrest of thief

The phone was stolen months ago but a signal obtained from the phone led to the arrest of the thief.

Police has arrested a man in Lefkosa who stole a phone he stole inside a minibus in August, 2022.

The suspect was taken to court on Tuesday, March, 14 on charges of theft. 

Police in a court statement said the suspect between the month of August 18, 2022 – September 7, 2022 stole a phone from inside a minibus parked in somewhere in Lefkosa.

Police said the door of the minibus was opened and all the electrical cables of the vehicle were cut with a cutting tool. The tablet charger and the tablet were stolen by the suspect.

Police said the suspect was identified months later on March, 7 after a signal was received from the stolen device.

Police traced the suspect to the location of the signal following a complaint leading to his arrest.

Police said investigation initiated regarding the issue continues, that the statement given by the suspect will be investigated, and that there are also missing signs.

The suspect was ordered to be kept in police custody for 3 days for investigation purposes.
