Man who stole money from a bag at Ercan Airport in 2020, arrested on his return to the TRNC

He was leaving the TRNC when he stole money from a bag at the airport in 2020 but the police were waiting for him.

A man has been arrested three years for stealing the money inside a bag dropped by a passenger at Ercan Airport.

The suspect identified only as RO who was declared a wanted person by the police committed the crime on January, 3, 2020 and was arrested at Ercan Airport on Friday, March, 24 on his return to the country with a pending court order.

He was taken to court on Saturday, March, 25 on charges of theft..

Police officer who testified in court said, the suspect stole 20,000TL he found inside the sports handbag of Kemal SEZER, a resident in Turkey, in the perfume aisle of the free shops, at Ercan Airport at aroun 2:55am on January 3, 2020.

The suspect then threw the bag in the place where the personnel door is located on the left of the escalators leading to the waiting room below.  

Police said all of the other items found in the bag were found, and the suspect was identified as a result of the examination of the camera records. He was then declared a wanted person.

Police said he was detected on March, 24, 2023, while he was entering the TRNC from Ercan airport, and that he was arrested as per the pending order.

The police demanded that he be detained for 2 days at the first stage, for the purpose of investigation, that the statement that he made will be investigated.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered the suspect to be detained for 3 days in the first stage for investigation purposes.
