Primary, secondary and high schools to open on February 20

The TRNC Council of Ministers on Monday announced that it has decided that primary, secondary and high schools (State schools and private schools) affiliated to the Ministry of National Education start teaching on Monday, February 20, 2023.

The Council of Ministers in a meeting held on Monday, 13 February 2023 took the following decisions:

1- During the earthquake disaster in Turkey, necessary legal arrangements have been made so that students and officials who participated in sports competitions representing our country and lost their lives are accepted as martyrs of duty.

2- In order to keep the memories of our people who lost their lives after the earthquake disaster in Turkey alive, it was decided to authorize the Ministry of Interior to initiate the necessary initiatives to build a monument in an appropriate area in cooperation with the Municipality of Famagusta.

3- In Famagusta, affiliated to the TRNC Prime Ministry Sports Department, Dr. It has been decided to build an indoor sports hall in memory of our athletes who lost their lives in the earthquake disaster in the Republic of Turkey in an area deemed appropriate by the Planning and Construction Department within the Fazıl Küçük Stadium Sports Complex, and to cover all expenses from an item deemed appropriate by the Ministry of Finance.

4- It has been decided that the Ministry of Interior, in consultation with the municipalities, will carry out the necessary work to give the names of our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake to the streets in their own cities.

5- It was decided that the education expenses of the children who were TRNC citizens and resided in the TRNC, whose parents died in the earthquake disaster, would be covered by the state.

6- The Council of Ministers was appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to take samples from the wreckage of the Kırıkhan Teacher's House, which collapsed due to the earthquake of February 6, 2023 and where TRNC citizens stayed in Hatay, to take samples from the wreckage and initiate a judicial investigation on the matter. He decided to take action before the Ministry.

7- The Council of Ministers was appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to ensure that the wreckage of the Saray Hotel, which collapsed due to the earthquake of 6 February 2023 and where TRNC citizens stayed in Hatay, was taken by the Hatay judicial authorities to take samples from the wreckage and to initiate a judicial investigation on the matter. He decided to take action before the Ministry.

8- It has been decided to suspend the permissions given to music permits, event organizations organized by the Culture Department and other similar organizations by the Directorate of Environmental Protection Department under the Deputy Prime Minister's Office of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment until February 28, 2023.

9- It has been decided that primary, secondary and high schools (State schools and private schools) affiliated to the Ministry of National Education will start education on Monday, February 20, 2023.
