Man and his wife found to be living in the TRNC with a fake identity for more than 20 years

A man who has been living with a fake identity in the TRNC since 2000, has been arrested by the police.

The suspect identified only as SG, was arrested on Friday, January, 27 and taken to court on Tuesday, January, 31 on charges of "Putting forged Documents into use" and "Procuring Records with False Documents".

Police officer who testified in court said the suspect's wife, V.D, a Moldovan citizen went to the Immigration Department of the General Directorate of Police on Friday, January 27, 2022 because she lost her Moldovan passport and asked if she could exit with the temporary travel document she had received.

Police said that an investigation conducted in the police system regarding VD, revealed that she had exited from the TRNC on August, 6, 1999 and did not return to the country, but in her verbal statement she declared that she had entered the TRNC from Ercan Airport in 2005 without taking any action.

The police stated that they searched the house where they were staying together after the suspects' contradictory statements and that the album containing the photographs they had taken together was taken as evidence.

The police also said that the documents issued in the name of AG were taken as evidence too.

The police underlined that during the investigation on the matter, it was determined that VD entered the TRNC under the name AG in 2000, that she was married to SG and had a child born in 2004, and that in all the transactions carried out in Lefkosa, the name EG was registered.

Regarding the issue, the police stated that it was determined that VD worked as a hostess at a workplace for 1 year in 1999 and then exited 1 year later.

The police demanded that the suspect's identity should be determined and that the suspect should be kept in police custody for 2 days in order to carry out the investigation together, as there were statements to be taken on the matter and investigations to be done in the TRNC offices.
