Man who raped an underage girl in December arrested by the police on his visit to the station

A man who went to the police station to report a security issue was arrested by the police after it was discovered that he sexually raped an under age child in Lefkosa in 2022.

The incident happened at the child's residence in Yenikent, Lefkosa where his girl friend was staying in December, 2022.

The suspect identified only as HB, was arrested on Friday, January, 20 while at the police department in Lefkosa in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl. 

He was taken to court on Monday on charges of raping a child under the age of 16.

Police said the incident came to the attention of the police on January, 20, 2023, and that the suspect was identified on the day he was at the Lefkosia Police Department for security purposes related to another issue.  

Police said on that the same day, the suspect gave a voluntary statement and admitted to the crimes he committed.  

He was sent to prison for 3 days and during the period, the complainant was checked by a doctor and a report was obtained that there was no sign of assault or force. 

The police stated that the suspect's statement would be confirmed and refuted, and demanded that the suspect be kept in police custody for 5 days so that the investigation could be conducted safely.
