Man beats wife for trying to divorce him

A man has been accused of beating and threatening his wife with death because she want to break up with him.

The suspect identified only as OB, a Turkish Cypriot severely battered and injured his wife, who wanted to break up with him, and threatened her with death in an incident that happened at her residence in Lefkosa on Saturday, December, 17.

He was arrested and taken to court on Sunday on charges of "Injury, Serious Assault and use of fowl Language."

Police in its testimony in court said the suspect severely battered his estranged wife, who was in the process of divorce in the courtyard of her house in Kermiya at around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday. Police said he threatened her with death and cursed her.

The police told the court that the complainant was checked by a doctor on the same day and that she had a 5 cm deep cut on the left side of her forehead and stitches were applied.  

The police demanded that the suspect be kept in police custody for 1 day for investigation purposes in the first place, since there were 2 people who saw the incident and tried to help the complainant, but they fled the scene because they were threatened by the suspect, that these people were sought, and that testimony would be taken from them.
