Gambia Vice-President in north Cyprus, visit Ersin Tatar
The Vice-President of Gambia, Badara Joof is holding contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and as part of his contacts, Joof was received by President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday.
Speaking during the visit, Joof referred to the TRNC’s contribution to Gambian education and said that they wanted to deepen the cooperation between the two countries.
Noting that his visit to the TRNC was an indication of these wishes, he said that they will be sending a delegation to the TRNC in the coming days to evaluate their cooperation.
Stating that cooperation can be developed not only in the field of education but also in many fields, Joof noted that a memorandum of understanding could be signed between the two countries following the meetings to be held.
Gambian Vice-President Joof who also invited President Tatar to Banjul stressed that they wanted to advance the relations between the TRNC and Gambia.
Stating that the TRNC contributed to Gambia’s human resources, Joof expressed his gratitude on behalf of his President, government and the people of Gambia.
Noting that foreign policy cannot be dictated by anyone, the Vice-President of Gambia said, “if our interests are to cooperate with the TRNC and this creates a win-win situation for both countries, then we should move forward in this regard. It doesn’t matter what other people think.”
Joof concluded his speech by thanking everyone who made the visit possible.
President Ersin Tatar for his part expressed his pleasure to see the Gambian Vice-President in the country.
Stating that they were working to integrate with the international community, the President noted that the TRNC has had many successes, especially in the field of higher education, and that students from 144 countries are studying in the country.
Noting that thousands of students have graduated from universities in the country in the last 20 years and that they had come to successful positions after returning to their countries, Tatar said that this made them happy.
Tatar welcomed the invitation of the Gambian Vice President Joof, and pointed to the importance of developing relations between the two countries in other fields such as tourism apart from higher education.
President Tatar who said, “We can work harder for the interests of our peoples” noted that ministers can act as a bridge to improve relations between the two countries.
He said that Gambian students studying in the country were important to them, and that the TRNC was doing its best to provide students with good education opportunities.
