Turkish consulate to open in Gazimağusa next year
The Republic of Türkiye will begin offering consular services in Gazimağusa as of January 15, 2023, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim has announced.
Serim who is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for contacts announced the news at the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa on Monday.
Commenting on the Cyprus issue, Serim said that any settlement in Cyprus must take into account the realities on the island and that this could only be possible through the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot people’s sovereign equality.
Speaking at a press conference at the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim said that he was pleased to have carried out his first visit to the TRNC following his appointment to his new post.
He said that he had found the opportunity to carry out a number of contacts and to discuss issues on the agenda.
“The road to a lasting solution in Cyprus is through the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot people’s sovereignty equality and equal international status,” said Serim, adding that a number of high-level visits to the TRNC will take place in the coming days.
Serim also said that efforts were underway to enable the TRNC to stand on its own feet.
The Deputy Turkish Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim also announced that the Turkish Embassy will be opening a consulate in Gazimağusa as of the mid-January next year.
