Russia is preparing to launch flights to TRNC
Russia is preparing to launch flights to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), it was reported on Wednesday.
Russian Newspaper Izvestiya, in its news based on top Russian sources, wrote that Russia is also preparing to open a consulate in North Cyprus and that these developments may take place before the end of the year.
One of Russia’s leading media organs, Izvestiya newspaper, in its news based on high-level sources from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote that Russia is preparing to launch flights to the TRNC and to open a consulate in North Cyprus.
In the news titled “Russian Federation is preparing to start flights with North Cyprus”, it was noted that these developments could take place before the end of the year.
High-level sources from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the flights to the TRNC were an initiative of a private Russian airline. Sources speaking to Izvestiya also stated that starting flights and opening a consulate will not mean diplomatic recognition.
According to them, the launch of flights and the opening of the point do not mean diplomatic recognition – this will be done to serve Russian citizens living in TRK, there are about 10 thousand of them, the interlocutors said.
Similarly, Western countries open their consular institutions in the northern part of the island, calling them “offices” and without specifying that they are in TRK.
