Man arrested for attempting to rape his niece in North Cyprus

A man simply identified as M.E has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for attempting to rape an underage child in North Cyprus.

The man who is he uncle of the child who is 16 years old was arrested by the police on Tuesday and taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of attempted rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault against.

Noting that the child's statement was taken in the presence of social workers, the Police said that the suspect was arrested as per a court order and did not accept the crimes in his voluntary statement.

Police officer who testified in court, said the suspect, between the period 2017 and 2022, attempted to sexually abuse the child who is his niece repeatedly. 

The police said that the child claimed that he had been sexually assaulting her since the age of 7. 

The police stated that the issue is a serious issue and statements that should be taken, and demanded that the suspect be detained in the police for 3 days in the first place.
