Turkish Cypriot football club Göçmenköy signs former Benin Republic international, Stephane Sessegnon

Former Benin Republic international, Stephane Sessegnon has signed for a Turkish Cypriot football club.

The former Sunderland football club of England star, 38, signed for the Turkish Cypriot Super League Team Göçmenköy IYSK on Wednesday, June, 1, 2022.

After two years without a club, the former captain of the Squirrels of Benin signed a two-year contract with Göçmenköy IYSK. He was unveiled in a ceremony in Lefkosa on Wednesday.

At 38, the former PSG player (2008 – 2011) or Montpellier (2016-2018) will offer himself a challenge when many thought he was already retired.

He joined the club after last playing in Turkey.

Sessegnon will wear his usual number 10 in the club. He thus joins his compatriot Mickaël Pote in the Northern Cyprus championship.  

Stéphane Sessègnon (born 1 June 1984) most recently played for Turkish club Gençlerbirliği. He represented his country at the 2008, 2010 and 2019 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. Sessègnon plays a variety of positions as a forward, a winger and as a midfield offensive playmaker. He is Benin's all-time top scorer and appearance maker with 24 international goals in 83 matches
