Man who threw a dog to its death in Girne is a student and will be tried in the future
The young man who threw a dog to its death in Girne on Saturday has been arrested and according to report, he is a student in the country.
The suspect identified only as T.J, 25 was arrested on the same day the incident happened.
Police said the suspect who lives in an apartment on Gazi Osman Paşa Street in Girne, at about 9:00am on Thursday, June, 27 threw the pit bull dog under his responsibility from the balcony of a 5th floor apartment, leading to its death.
Police said they went to the scene after a tip-off, knocked on the door of the apartment where the suspect was staying, but did not open the door even though he was inside. The police said that after taking orders from the court, they went to the suspect's residence with a locksmith, opened the door, and this time the suspect locked himself in his bedroom.
The suspect opened the door after a while at the insistence of the police and was taken into custody for harming an animal.
During interrogation, the suspect said he was playing with the dog and dropped it while throwing it from the balcony.
Police said they took statements from two witnesses who heard the dog's cries about the incident.
Police the suspect is a university student.
He was granted bail on the condition that he deposit a cash collateral of 10,000 TL and a surety to sign a 100,000 TL bail bond. He will be tried in the future.
